Director, Founder |
Mollishmael drives the Global-Ghana Youth Network in Kissehman. He has lived in this community for his entire life, in the same conditions as our kids, and has endured much personal loss, including the death of his father. Instead of falling into the same rut as many others in his community, however, Mollishmael is trying to make the way easier for others than it was for himself. Unlike most males here, Mollishmael sets impeccable standards for the kids to live by and demonstrates outstanding caring for the lives of those in his community. Because the organization is in desperate need of funding, he often refuses to accept his pay, and instead insists that the money be directed toward the kids or organization. He therefore receives little if any compensation for a job that requires working 12 hours a day, often seven days a week. When he does receive pay for his efforts, he gives it to old ladies in Kissehman who have no way to earn a living because they are too sick or too feeble. Mollishmael oversees all of the organization's administrative and financial activities; he teaches; and he drums and instructs dancing for the Peace and Love Dance Ensemble. When parents or kids have any problem, they go to Mollishmael for advice and solutions. He is currently only 26-years old, but he has the respect of people much older and the good humor of those far younger. Due to a lack of money, Mollishmael has completed half of high school where he studied telecommunication, but is currently an artistic director teaching African drumming and dancing. His favorite drink is Fanta lemon, and he loves to play football (soccer) and sing Gospel songs. His smile can make a sick man stand up. If you wish to contact Mollishmael, please click here. |

| Josephine Tagbor (Dada) | Dada, Mollishmael's mother, can neither read nor write nor speak English, but she plays a huge role in the organization. She owns the center, all the drums, the volunteers' house, and she is consulted before all decisions are made. She is the wisdom and sensibility of the organization. All of Dada's husbands have died, but Dada continues to care for her ten children, all of her grandchildren, and for any hungry child who comes to her. Her house and compound are usually overflowing with little children who all love Dada tremendously, brushing her hair, fetching her water, and even cleaning her toenails. Even though she is gruff with them, she loves them, too, and gives them everything she has. | |
| Beatrice Baako | Basket Weaving | Beatrice comes from the Northern Region of Ghana and speaks Fra Fra and Twi. She has been weaving baskets since she was a little girl, learning the art from her mother. Beatrice has four children of her own but takes care of the large numbers who come to her to learn how to weave. With her sister Joyce, they weave the baskets that the GGYN sells to earn money for the organization. Beatrice also teaches basket weaving and cooking for any volunteers interested. Her baskets make colorful presents for people back home, and all profits fund the organization, the livelihood of Beatrice, and the livelihoods of all those who depend on her.
